HISTORICAL PRODUCTION ZONES OF VINO NOBILE

Perched on the hill that shares its name in Montepulciano’s southern expanse, Poggio alla Sala stands as one of the historical production zones for Vino Nobile. The landscape unfolds with centuries-old oaks, cypress woods, enchanting vineyards, olive groves, and rustic farmhouses, crowned by a stately farm and villa higher up. This idyllic panorama encapsulates the quintessential beauty of Tuscany.

The special charm of Poggio alla Sala lies in its unique combination of soil composition, an ideal microclimate sculpted by surrounding hills, and the influence of the nearby Chiusi and Montepulciano lakes. Throughout the year, the gentle breezes from these lakes provide cooling respite to the grapes amid the summer heat and usher in mild temperatures during winter. Paired with our distinctive terroir, this harmonious blend forms the exceptional “recipe” of Poggio alla Sala, perfectly tailored for cultivating Prugnolo Gentile (Sangiovese), the principal grape that lends its character to our exceptional wines.

A SPECIAL TERROIR

RECOGNISABLE AND ELEGANT CHARACTER

The distinctive “terroir” of Poggio alla Sala imparts a unique character to Sangiovese (Prugnolo Gentile), endowing our wines with a recognizable and elegant profile. The immediately appealing qualities of Rosso di Montepulciano, preserving the essence of red fruit and mature plum, are elevated by complexity and elegance in Vino Nobile. This progression reaches a special pinnacle in the Riserva, marked by a distinctive evolution and maturity. The epitome of our winemaking prowess is encapsulated in the Nobile “Parceto,” a Cru that showcases the longevity of a select parcel with 45-year-old vines. This wine magnificently expresses the character of Prugnolo Gentile and its origin.
